On Friday, 23rd January 2026, the students of Army Day Secondary School, Eburutu Barracks, Ikot Ansa, Calabar experienced a welcome upgrade as the Calabar Paradise Leo Club, led by the ever service-oriented Leo Theresa Efion, successfully delivered its Core Project 2, and no, this time it wasn’t just speeches and photographs (though there were plenty of those too).

The project involved the donation of whiteboards, board markers, and dusters, simple tools, yet powerful enough to transform lessons from “copy am quietly” to “pay attention, this is important.” The initiative was driven by the Leo Club’s passion for selfless service, youth leadership, and community development, perfectly aligned with the ideals of Lions Clubs International.

The event attracted an impressive gathering of Lions and Leos who clearly agreed that education is worth showing up for. In attendance was the Sponsoring Lions President of Calabar Paradise Lions Club, Lion Winifred Nso, whose consistent support continues to keep the Leo Club energized and focused. Also present was the ever-supportive Leo Advisor, Lion Idaka Isaac, and Distinguished Past President of Calabar Paradise Lions Club, Lion Dr. Miriam Edu Egere, bringing wisdom, experience, and grace to the occasion as well as Lion Evalsam Ekpe, the Zone 6A Chairperson, whose presence reminded everyone that when Leos work hard, the entire Lions family proudly watches.

The Leo leadership was well represented by the District President of Leo District 404A2, Nigeria, Leo Joyce Eduebuk, and the Leo Region 4 Director, Leo Prince Austine, both of whom were clearly pleased to see service translated into action.

The school community warmly received the team, represented by the Principal, Mr. Sullivan Igodo, the Vice Principal, and several dedicated teachers who wasted no time admiring the new boards (and possibly planning who would write on them first). Various members of the Calabar Paradise Leo Club, alongside Leos from other Leo Clubs, were also present, proving once again that service is better when done together, hence the slogan: Together, we serve better

In his acceptance speech, the Principal, Sullivan Igodo, who was a member of a similar service organization, the Rotary Club, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Leo Club for their generosity, noting that this is purely selfless service from his knowledge as a Rotarian. He praised the club’s selfless service and youthful leadership, noting that the donated materials would greatly improve classroom teaching and learning. He assured everyone that the whiteboards, markers, and dusters would be carefully utilized, and encouraged the Leos to continue being shining examples of community-driven leadership.

The project wrapped up successfully with smiles, handshakes, group photographs, and the shared satisfaction of work well done. Core Project 2 stands as a proud achievement of the Calabar Paradise Leo Club, under the dynamic leadership of Leo Theresa Efiom, once again proving that when Leos serve, communities feel it, and in this case, classrooms get brighter too.
